The course introduces the students to the Ancient Egyptian civilization from the early Stone Age to their conquest by the Persians and Greeks. It gives a comprehensive historical account on the rise and fall of the Egyptian dynasties, analyzes archeological and anthropological evidence, discusses religious, cultural and social patterns, and examines the earliest masterpieces of art and architecture in the Egyptian world.

Trip to Egypt-Petra (56:606:614:02) 1 credit:
As part of the International Studies Program, we take a trip to Egypt and
Jordan during the Spring Break with visits to major archeological sites such as
Sakkara, Memphis, the Pyramids, and the Sphinx at Giza, the royal tombs in the
Valley of the Kings, the Luxor-Karnak Temple, Queen Hatshepsut's Mortuary
Temple, Medinet Habu, and in Jordan, the rock city of Petra. The trip also
includes a visit to the Cairo Museum of Antiquities, the Coptic, Jewish and
Islamic Old Cairo, the Bazaar Quarter, and in Jordan, a safari in Wadi Rum. $2,085.00 per person, double occupancy.
plus departure tax of $288.59 per person.
The above wholesale rates are based on a minimum of 15 participants traveling
together. Price includes all services listed in program (except the optional tours), as
well as international round trip airfare of: New York/Cairo/Jordan/Cairo/New
York, and domestic airfare within Egypt: Cairo/Luxor/Cairo.

(Sunday). Breakfast at the hotel, 7:30 start a full day tour to visit the Great Pyramids, Sphinx, Papyrus Institute, Memphis, Sakkara and Carpet School. Back to the hotel, overnight in Cairo.March 17, 2008
(Monday). Breakfast at the hotel, 8:00 start a full day tour to visit Old Cairo (Hanging Church and Abu Serga Church), Perfume Factory and the Egyptian Museum. Back to the hotel, overnight in Cairo.March 18, 2008 (Tuesday). Breakfast at the Hotel, check out, transfer to Cairo domestic terminal for departure to Luxor by MS135 at 6:15, arrival Luxor at 7:20, meeting and assistance by Zekri Tours Representative. Upon arrival start a full day visit to the West Bank (Valley of the Kings, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, Madinet Habu), Alabaster Factory, and then check in at Sonesta St. George Hotel for rest and refreshment. In the evening start the visit to Luxor Temple, free at leisure, optional tour of Luxor Bazaar. Overnight in Luxor.
March 19, 2008 (Wednesday). Breakfast at the hotel, Check out, 8:30, start the visit to Karnak Temple and then transfer to Luxor airport for the flight to Cairo by MS334 at 12:40. Arrival Cairo Domestic Terminal at 13:47, transfer to Cairo International Airport for departure to Amman by MS701 at 17:00. Arrival at Amman at 18:20. Meeting and assistance at Queen Alia Airport, after the visa formalities, transfer to Petra through desert, check in at Grand View/Petra Hotel. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
March 20, 2008 (Thursday). Breakfast at the hotel. Start a full day visit for exploring the magnificently mysterious rock-carved rose red city of Petra. Various walks and climbs reveal literally hundreds of buildings, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples, arched gateways, colonnaded streets and haunting rock drawings as well as a 3000 seat open air amphitheatre, a gigantic first century Monastery (800 steps on top of the mountain) and a modern archeological museum, all of which can be explored at leisure. Horseback riding is also included in this excursion. During the visit lunch will be served at Al Anbat Tent restaurant. Dinner and overnight at Grand View/Petra Hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel, Check out at 8:30, transfer to Wadi Rum, 2 hours Jeep Safari tour and Transfer to Amman Airport for departure to Cairo by MS702 at 19:20, arrival at Cairo International Airport at 20:45, Meeting and assistance and visa formalities by Zekri Tours representative, transfer by private A/C bus to Shepheard Hotel. Overnight in Cairo.
