The course introduces the students to the Ancient Egyptian civilization from the early Stone Age to their conquest by the Persians and Greeks. It gives a comprehensive historical account on the rise and fall of the Egyptian dynasties, analyzes archeological and anthropological evidence, discusses religious, cultural and social patterns, and examines the earliest masterpieces of art and architecture in the Egyptian world.

Trip to Egypt-Petra (56:606:614:02) 1 credit:

As part of the International Studies Program, we take a trip to Egypt and Jordan during the Spring Break with visits to major archeological sites such as Sakkara, Memphis, the Pyramids, and the Sphinx at Giza, the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the Luxor-Karnak Temple, Queen Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple, Medinet Habu, and in Jordan, the rock city of Petra. The trip also includes a visit to the Cairo Museum of Antiquities, the Coptic, Jewish and Islamic Old Cairo, the Bazaar Quarter, and in Jordan, a safari in Wadi Rum.

Projected cost of the trip:

$2,085.00 per person, double occupancy.
$2,318.00 per person, single occupancy.
$2,037.00 per person, triple occupancy.

plus departure tax of $288.59 per person.

The above wholesale rates are based on a minimum of 15 participants traveling together. Price includes all services listed in program (except the optional tours), as well as international round trip airfare of: New York/Cairo/Jordan/Cairo/New York, and domestic airfare within Egypt: Cairo/Luxor/Cairo.

How to sign up for the trip:

Tentative Itinerary: (March 14-23, 2008)

March 14, 2008 (Friday). Departure from JFK at 18:30.

March 18, 2008 (Tuesday). Breakfast at the Hotel, check out, transfer to Cairo domestic terminal for departure to Luxor by MS135 at 6:15, arrival Luxor at 7:20, meeting and assistance by Zekri Tours Representative. Upon arrival start a full day visit to the West Bank (Valley of the Kings, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, Madinet Habu), Alabaster Factory, and then check in at Sonesta St. George Hotel for rest and refreshment. In the evening start the visit to Luxor Temple, free at leisure, optional tour of Luxor Bazaar. Overnight in Luxor.
