The course introduces the students to the Ancient Egyptian civilization from the early Stone Age to their conquest by the Persians and Greeks. It gives a comprehensive historical account on the rise and fall of the Egyptian dynasties, analyzes archeological and anthropological evidence, discusses religious, cultural and social patterns, and examines the earliest masterpieces of art and architecture in the Egyptian world.

TRIP TO EGYPT (1 credit)

As part of the International Studies Program, we take a trip to Egypt during the Spring Break with visits to major archeological sites such as Sakkara, Memphis, the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Solar Boat at Giza, the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Medinet Habu, the Ramesseum, Abydos and Dendera. The trip also includes a visit to the Cairo Museum of Antiquities, the Coptic, Jewish and Islamic Old Cairo, and the Bazaar Quarter.

Projected cost of the trip to Egypt:

All services are subject to availability upon request once a full payment is received. Hotels will be those mentioned, or similar, based on availability at time of booking. All services will be provided according to Tours & Travel Dimensions, Inc “General Information, Terms and Conditions.” Travel insurance is highly recommended; information available upon request. Airfares are subject to change without notice, and do not include departure tax. The cost of the trip is as follows:

$1,936.00 per person, double occupancy
$1,891.00 per person, triple occupancy
$2,261.00 per person, single occupancy

Friends, significant others who otherwise are not related to Rutgers are welcome to participate in the trip. For these participants Rutgers regulations however require an additional fee of $100 to be paid directly to the International Studies Program.

The above wholesale rates are based on a minimum of 15 full paying participants traveling together, and include the following services:

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE TRIP:

If you wish to participate in the trip, please fill out the registration form (link here) and drop it off at my office (BSB 310)
$300 deposit is due on December 9, 2005

The remaining amount is due on January 17, 2006.

Tentative Itinerary:

March 10, 2005. Depart from the USA via Egypt Air non stop service to Cairo. Dinner and breakfast on board.

March 14, 2005. Breakfast. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Luxor. Arrive Luxor airport , meeting and assistance at airport. Transfer to hotel. Assistance with check-in. Visit Luxor temple. Dinner and overnight.
