The course introduces the students to the early Aegean civilizations focusing on the Bronze Age in the Mediterranean. It includes a detailed study of the civilizations of the Minoans and the Mycenaeans, Greece during the Archaic Age, and the Persian invasions.
The literary masterpieces of the times, Homer's Iliad and the works of Hesiod, are also anylyzed.

The course is intended for Honors College students as well as undergraduate and graduate liberal studies students.

Textbook:

Grading will be based on two in-class tests and a final exam.

TRIP TO Greece (1 credit)
 ATHENS AND THE AEGEAN ISLANDS

As part of the International Studies Program, the course includes the trip to "Athens and the Aegean Islands" with a 2-day visit to Athens (Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Zeus), and a 5-day cruise in the Aegean sea visiting Crete (Knossos Palace), Santorini (Ancient Thera), Mykonos, Kudasai (Ancient Ephesus, Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World) and Rhodes.
